Wet,
wet, wet
The first
drama of the day occurred when skipper Mick McGowan turned
up and announced he was not skippering today. After the
team huddle of the previous week we all assumed he was happily
ensconced back in his elected role.
After some
tactical negotiations by the senior pros, Dom Pilgrim ended
up with the skipper's job.
He went
out to toss with the infamous "Dick" and, casting
an eye to the skies, decided to bat.
As it turned
out, this was a wise decision. Seventeen overs into the
game the heavens opened and all those on the pitch made
the 100 yard dash to the changing rooms. The pitch was waterlogged
and no more play would be possible.
So what
happened in those 17 overs I hear you ask. Well, Andy V
(19 n.o) opened with our Aussie guest for the day Chris
Isles. They took the score to 36 before Chris shocked
us all and tickled one to the keeper for 20 having creamed
the ball all over Southover. Being a native of Perth, the
Southover track must have been a shock to the system.
Cantorous
soon bowled Paulo Manzi, possibly a bit out of his depth
at number 3, but not before he took a painful blow on the
foot.
Steve Golding
was unluckily bowled by a full toss, which he struggled
to pick up in the dark trees in the background, for 9.
As Mick
McGowan strode to the wicket golf ball sized raindrops started
to fall. We all disappeared, with only a Pat special for
tea to look forward to.
